Dawn has been with Artistry in Motion as a ballet teacher from the opening of the studio in 2006. Starting with two levels of ballet, it has been fun to watch the studio grow to 5 levels of ballet, 3 levels of pointe and several technique only ballet classes.
Dawn Sheree Crawford began her dance training at the age of 8 in Grand Junction, Colorado at Mesa State College. Some classes taken include ballet, jazz, modern and tap. Dawn participated in many summer workshops where different forms of dance were experienced. The workshops brought various guest artists from different parts of the country helping her to add new and exciting forms of dance into her repertoire of movement. Throughout all of her years of dance training, however, ballet remained constant. Each semester concluded with a dance concert where students choreographed and performed original pieces. Dawn performed in numerous dance concerts both as a child and then later as an adult.
Dawn's ballet instructor, Ann Sanders, retired from Mesa State College in June of 2005 after 35 years as their Director of Dance and Creator and Artistic Director for the Mesa Repertory Dance Program. Dawn attributes her adherence to and respect for ballet technique necessities to Ms. Sanders. Another main influence came from Miss Dale Lee Niven, a guest artist brought in several times for the summer workshops. This is where she received her love for modern dance and tap. Summer guest artists also include her sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Jef Horne, members of Ballet El Paso who now own and run a dance studio in Fallon, Nevada.
During the summer of her 16th year, Dawn took classes with members of Ballet El Paso in Texas. Dawn continued to perform with the Mesa State Repertory Dance Company while she was a student there.
After she married, Dawn taught a year of Musical Theater for Mesa State College where she worked with children from ages 5-12 on singing and choreography.
Dawn has experience choreographing for many performances including her HS jazz choir and high school musicals, church musicals and many other productions. Dawn also taught for over 3 years for Lorrie Revelli at The Dance Connection. She taught as a preschool teacher at The Children's School where she taught with Teacher Cheri for 9 years, she involved singing and dancing wherever she could.
While working with both The Dance Connection and Artistry in Motion and coaching the TRDT (dance team) at Rock Springs High School, Dawn received instruction from Tony Cappola, Joe Tremaine, Roni Mahler, Rhee Gold, instructors from NDA and USA dance camps.
To further her education and expand her abilities, Dawn earned her Bachelors Degree in Business Management from Brigham Young University - Idaho in 2024.
While one of Dawn's focuses throughout her life has been in the arts and has been lucky to continue teaching in that area, her husband and growing family remain her priority.
