Dena Douchant began her love of dance at Diane Browning’s On Your Toes Dance Academy, at the age of 6, in Torrington. After Diane retired, Stephanie Kath opened 28th Avenue Studio and Dena joined with her in attending classes in Ballet, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Tap, Pointe, and Lyrical. If Dena wasn’t at school or home, she was at the studio. While dancing with Stephanie, she attended many workshops in many styles of dance.
While in high school Dena was a member of the Traildusters, the high school dance team, and in her senior year, was a THS cheerleader. Dena attended the University of Wyoming and tried out for the Wildfire Dance Team. After earning that honor, she danced with them for 5 years, at all football, basketball and some volleyball games. She was asked to go with the team to attend the Las Vegas Bowl and perform. The last 2 years as a Wildfire member, Dena was team Captain and choreographed most of the dances that were performed. As a member and captain of Wildfire, Dena earned the distinction of “All American” at an NDA Dance Camp, she was also awarded The Spirit of Wyoming Award from the University of Wyoming. As a Wildfire member, Dena was also a part of promoting the Cowboy Joe Club and attended many of their activities to help with fundraising.
Next, Dena moved back to Torrington and coached the Torrington High School Cheer team, while working full-time in Physical Therapy at Banner Health. After she married former UW cheerleader, Michael Douchant, they moved to Missouri. Dena was hired as the Head Coach of the Three Rivers College Cheerleader/Dance team. She also was in charge of Public Relations with the sports department.
Dena and Michael then moved back to Michael’s hometown of Green River. Since then, they have moved to Rock Springs and Dena began working at Sweetwater Technology Services, Inc., as an Office Manage and is also the Head Coach of RSHS Cheer. Dena’s love of her life other than dance/ cheer is Michael and her 4-year-old daughter Kamrynn Teal.
